At Weight Loss Institute of Arizona, we consider ourselves your partner on the journey to a new, healthier life; that partnership extends beyond the day when you achieve your goal weight. We are there to support you through all of the changes that come with your new body and new lifestyle.

At our practice, weight loss is only part of the equation. We want you to feel your best, and for many of our patients, that means undergoing plastic surgery to correct the excess, hanging skin that is left after weight loss. We have helped many of our bariatric surgery patients by referring them to plastic surgeons who specialize in body contouring surgery for our weight loss patients in Phoenix, Tempe, Arrowhead, and Tucson, Ariz.

If you would like more information about plastic surgery after massive weight loss, request your consultation online, or call our office and one of our helpful staff members will assist you.

Understanding Post-Bariatric Plastic Surgery

After massive weight loss, the skin does not always “snap back” to fit the body’s smaller size. For many of our weight loss surgery patients, the excess, hanging skin can be an unpleasant reminder of their former self. This residual bulk can make it difficult to enjoy the results of your hard-earned weight loss because it can:

  • distort the shape and proportion of your new, smaller body
  • cause physical discomforts such as chafing and skin irritation
  • limit physical activities and clothing options

Your Procedure Options

You have numerous postoperative plastic surgery options available to you after you have lost weight. They include:

Lower Body Lift – The lower body lift is a procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the lower back, flanks, hips, thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. Through a circumferential incision, the excess skin in these areas is removed and remaining tissue and skin are repositioned and tightened for a firmer, smoother appearance. It can be combined with abdominoplasty to tighten lax abdominal muscles and skin, as well as liposuction for slimmer, smoother contours.

Thigh Lift – The thigh lift helps patients with loose, bulky skin and residual fat that may cause chafing and irritation of their thighs. Through well-concealed incisions, the surgeon lifts and firms the thighs, incorporating liposuction for improved results.

Arm Lift – The arm lift or brachioplasty, addresses the loose, hanging skin of the upper arm that can cause self-consciousness and limit clothing options. Through an incision from the armpit down the inside of the upper arm, the surgeon eliminates excess skin and repositions tissues for a more toned appearance.

One of our compassionate, experienced bariatric surgeons can refer you to a qualified plastic surgery specialist when appropriate.
